I was quoted in an Arizona Republic story this morning, written by D.S. Woodfill about Michelle Cusseaux, the fifty year old mentally ill woman who was shot and killed by Sgt. Percy Dupra of the Phoenix Police Department on August 14, 2014 after she allegedly charged at the officer with a hammer.
Phoenix Police Chief Daniel V. Garcia asked the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to conduct an “independent review” of the shooting to determine if Sgt. Dupra did anything wrong. Continue reading Could Mentally Ill Woman’s Life Have Been Saved?
Dr. Peter Steinmetz, a physician and director at Barrow’s Neurological Institute, was arrested last week when he took his AR-15 rifle to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport for a cup of coffee. Dr. Steinmetz was arrested by Phoenix Police when it is alleged he inadvertently pointed the rifle at someone while removing it from his shoulder where he had it slung. Last week I was interviewed by Arizona Republic Reporter Connor Wince about ASU professor Ersula Ore who was roughly arrested by ASU Police Officer Stewart Ferrin for walking in the middle of the street and then failing to show ID. After she was arrested, Prof. Ore is accused of kicking Off. Ferrin in the shin and was also charged with Aggravated Assault.
